Rev. Christopher Steubing, Pastor

Chris Steubing was born in San Antonio, TX and was formed in faith in a small, country church in nearby Elm Creek where he developed a love for Jesu.s and music by singing in the choir with his mom. While attending Texas Lutheran University, Chris participated in concert choir and musical theater, served on summer staff at two Lutheran bible camps, Chrysalis and Lutherhill, and studied abroad for a year in Finland. After college, Chris taught English and lived with a host family in South Korea for a year before returning home to Texas to begin his first job as a youth minister.
While working in Brenham, TX (home of Blue Bell ice cream) he met the love of his life, Amy. The two were married in 2002 and relocated to Minnesota where Chris attended Luther Seminary. While attending seminary Chris continued to develop a passion for music and the church of Jesus Christ while serving in congregations as a youth minister, pastoral intern, and praise band director. He was ordained in 2008 and has served in several calls as an ordained minister, most recently as Associate Pastor for Creative Arts and Worship at Shalom Lutheran Church in Pinckney, MI.
Chris enjoys watching sports (he’s a huge fan of the Vikings, San Antonio Spurs, and Texas Longhorns), running, and spending time enjoying the outdoors. Chris’s biggest hobby is music and songwriting and he loves to connect music into his role as pastor. He has recorded an album of original music and you can listen and connect with him through his website www.chrissteubing.com.
Chris is also passionate about making disciples and leading congregational transformation and mission renewal. In November 2015, he was approved for the specialized ministry of mission redevelopment and is excited about the opportunity to do this important work with Christ the Servant.
Chris’s first love and vocation is to serve as a husband and father. Chris and Amy have two children, Ameya (11) and Asher (8) and a black Labrador named Luna. Amy works at Capella University as Manager of the Center for Academic Success and Excellence. The family recently relocated to the Twin Cities and currently resides in Shoreview.

Sandy Hammerlind, Ministry Coordinator

I began my position as Ministry Coordinator at Christ the Servant July 26, 2016. I come to Christ the Servant with many years of experience of serving in various ministry positions throughout my life. Originally I was rostered in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod in the parish worker program serving in this position (church secretary with an emphasis in Children, Youth and Family) at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd, MN and then in Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayzata, MN.

As my life continued to unfold, I began working in ministry positions in the ELCA in congregations in Hibbing and Duluth, MN. Those positions included working as a Christian Education Director, Organist and Youth Director. In June of 2002 my son, Chad, and I moved to St. Paul, where I was employed by Luther Seminary as Assistant to the Director of Admissions. That position evolved and in 2011 I was appointed as the Admission’s Office, Admissions Systems Specialist. During my years at Luther I, also, completed my Bachelor’s degree at Metropolitan State University and completed the candidacy process as an Associate in Ministry in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Luther Seminary commissioned me in 2007.

My son and his family now live in Austin, Texas. He is a patent attorney graduating from the University of Minnesota with a bio-medical engineering degree and completing his law degree at William Mitchel University. I have been blessed with five grandchildren.

I am looking forward to serving and being a part of “God’s Work, Our Hands” here at Christ the Servant.
